Can Divorce be a Relief for Kids?
According to Max Sindell, divorce can indeed be a relief for children than the alternative of watching your parents make each other, and their children, miserable. I learned about Max and his desire to bring a more positive and empowering perspective to the divorce dialogue from a great article in the March 20 edition of Canada’s Globe and Mail by Sarah Hampson. You can check out the article “For Kids, divorce can be a relief - ‘one of the best things’ ever” here.
Sarah writes a wonderful weekly column called “Generation Ex” which covers all topics divorce-related. I’m definitely going to check out Max’s book, “The Bright Side: Surviving Your Parents’ Divorce” so I can learn more about the experience he had. He’s even created a Divorced Kids Bill of Rights which include… the right to be safe and feel safe; the right to awareness; the right to counseling; the right to be heard; the right to be your own person; the right to be neutral, and the right to private communication. I’m sure children, including my own, would agree with those rights. What other rights might you include in a children’s bill of rights? Keep up the great work, Max!
